Kinship Matching

Kinship matching is the use of DNA profiles to link blood relatives in order to assist in civil investigations. Linking blood relatives' profiles is possible because half a person's nuclear DNA is inherited from their mother and half from their father. Kinship matching is extremely valuable for assisting with missing persons’ and unknown deceased investigations, and disaster victim identification.

CrimTrac will examine the use of kinship matching as part of a national missing persons’ solution.
